1 killed, multiple injured after Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade shooting [Updated]

One person was killed, and at least 14 were injured in a shooting that occurred at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory parade, according to reports.

Three victims are in critical condition and one has non-life-threatening injuries, according to KCFD spokesperson Michael Hopkins.

Five of the victims were taken to the University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, according to its managing communications director Keith King.

KCPD first reported that shots had been fired at 3:02 p.m. EST. The department provided an update at 3:14 p.m. saying that two armed suspects were taken into custody.

Chief Stacey Graves said she heard fans were in on the apprehension of one of the suspects.

KC governor Mike Parsons and his wife Teresa were at the parade when the shots were fired but are confirmed to be safe. Additionally, all Chiefs players, coaches, and staff are accounted for and safe, according to Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.

“I don’t want us in our country to fear getting shot at every major event,” Lucas said.

“I’m heartbroken. … I’m incredibly upset and disappointed.”

Police held people inside Union Station as officers attempted to clear the area and identify the number of shooting victims. Everyone has since been released.

According to NFL Network correspondent James Palmer, the media was escorted away from the station after being told to get under the stage. News-Press sports director Jacob Meikel also identified that military personnel were present in the response to the Union Hall shooting.

“Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing,” Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill tweeted.
