40-year old star must dethrone Cody Rhodes, WWE Hall of Famer explains why

Cody Rhodes is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion, but it seems like a WWE Hall of Famer wants someone else to hold the prestigious title. Mark Henry thinks a 40-year-old star should be the one to dethrone The American Nightmare.

Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship on the January 9 episode of SmackDown in Berlin, Germany. He’ll face Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match, which features a Standard, a Falls Count Anywhere, and a Steel Cage Match.

On a recent episode of Busted Open, Mark Henry shared his thoughts on why the 40-year-old McIntyre deserves to beat Cody Rhodes and become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

“Drew’s been run through the wringer. He always gets to the dance, but then can’t find his invitation. It’s time to throw the dude a bone and let him have his gloating heel king moment. Drew needs a moment of being the guy so he can remind everybody: 1. How good he is, and 2. build up heat. You want to see the title be taken off of him, that’s an important thing in wrestling. We went away from what becomes important, and we want to do what’s just entertaining,” Henry said. [H/T: Fightful]

Drew McIntyre has sent Cody Rhodes to the brink of his sanity, especially after he burned a picture of Cody and Dusty Rhodes last Friday on SmackDown.

History doesn’t favor Cody Rhodes ahead of Three Stages of Hell

Next Friday’s Three Stages of Hell Match is just the fifth in WWE history since it was introduced in early 2001. Based on the results of the first four matches, history doesn’t favor Cody Rhodes because he’s the babyface heading into the contest.

In the first three Three Stages of Hell matches, Triple H was involved. He won the first two against Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels as a heel. He then lost the third one when he was a babyface against Randy Orton in 2009.

The only babyface to win a Three Stages of Hell Match is John Cena, who defeated Ryback at Payback 2013.
