Najee Harris is hitting the market in March, which means the veteran back could end up in several places. After things failed to work out with the Los Angeles Chargers, it is clear that Harris is in line for a running back competition to be a top-two back. In some places, he might win the starting job. In others, he might win the second job.
Here’s a look at what could be next for the soon-to-be former Chargers back.

#1 – Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are likely to move on from James Conner this year and after going through a carousel of running backs in 2025, the position is likely to be a focus of the offseason. A rookie running back is likely in Arizona’s future, but adding Najee Harris would give the team a floor heading into a draft in which Arizona is going to need to fill a lot of holes on its roster.
#2 – New York Jets
The New York Jets are set to move on from Breece Hall, per Spotrac. If the team lets him walk, it will need a new veteran to help fill the void. Najee Harris could be the solution after a streak of four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career. The streak ended in 2025 in part due to injury, but Harris would be a strong contender for the starting role in New York based on resume alone.
#3 – Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys managed to wring a great season out of Javonte Williams, but the back is not under contract heading into 2026. If Jerry Jones lets Williams out the door, Harris could be an upgrade in terms of resume heading into his first Cowboys season.

#4 – Houston Texans
The Houston Texans’ running back plan is far from set in stone. Najee Harris could help solidify things heading into 2026 if the team elects to move on from any of its shaky running backs. Getting Harris could also save the team a draft pick it would otherwise need to spend on a running back to spice up the room.
#5 – Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans need every weapon possible to give Cam Ward the best chance to capitalize on his prime deep playoff push years. Najee Harris, paired with Tony Pollard, could create a backfield greater than the sum of its parts. His arrival would also arguably create one of the best starting competitions of August in the NFL.
