AEW champion says his body is still in pain after match with Wardlow

A top AEW champion has made a recent claim regarding Wardlow after their run-in with each other a few years ago. They mentioned how they were still feeling the effects of their match.

MJF has an interesting history with the former TNT Champion, as he was Friedman’s hired muscle during their early days on the promotion. This was the case until Mr. Mayhem grew tired of working under him and turned on him in 2022. This began a brief feud between them, and they had a singles match at Double or Nothing that year to settle all grievances.

This match was mentioned during the latest episode of Shut Up and Wrestle with Brian Solomon. The Salt of the Earth claimed that getting hit with tons of Powerbombs that night left a lasting effect on his back. He then claimed that Wardlow was ungrateful, after he had paid him a lot of money over the years.

“I was trying to win Brian, and I’m not happy about it. My back still hurts from those Powerbombs. He sure did hit a lot of f**king Powerbombs that night, a**hole. Horrible guy, horrible guy, an opportunist, and you know, I was paying him very well and the word that comes to mind is ungrateful, Brian. [30:10-30:36]

Wardlow was recently backstage in AEW

Unfortunately, the top AEW star has been dealing with his fair share of injuries, which have put him on the shelf for some time. He has not competed in the ring since March 2024, but made a brief appearance at Forbidden Door last year.

He attacked Swerve Strickland and revealed himself to be the newest member of the Don Callis Family. But unfortunately, it was reported that he sustained yet another injury, and he has not been seen since then.

PWInsider reported recently that Wardlow was backstage at Double or Nothing in Queens, New York. But there was no information on plans for him or when he could return to TV.

Wardlow is considered one of the top stars in AEW, but his recent runs have been plagued with injuries. Hopefully, this won’t be the case once he finally makes his return.
