SRH youngster takes brilliant reflex catch at slip to dismiss Abdul Samad in Duleep Trophy 2026 [Watch]

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) youngster Smaran Ravichandran pulled off a brilliant reflex catch to dismiss North Zone batter Abdul Samad while representing South Zone on Day 1 (Sunday, August 30) of the second semi-final of the Duleep Trophy 2026. The contest is being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2, Bengaluru.

The dismissal occurred on the fourth ball of the 25th over of North Zone’s innings. Shreyas Gopal bowled a full-length delivery outside off that spun away, prompting the right-hander to attempt a cut. The ball flew towards Smaran’s right at first slip. He quickly threw out his right hand, but the ball initially slipped out after hitting his palm. However, Smaran showed excellent reflexes to complete the catch with both hands as he fell to the ground.

Abdul Samad was dismissed after scoring 16 off 19 balls, including two fours and a six. His departure left the North Zone at 95/4 after 24.4 overs.

North Zone in trouble after Abdul Samad’s dismissal in Duleep Trophy 2026

North Zone skipper Kanhaiya Wadhawan won the toss and opted to bat first. Their opening pair of Qamran Iqbal and Sanat Sangwan added 18 runs off 36 balls for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed for 10 off 19 balls, including two fours, by Md Nidheesh.

Iqbal and Ayush Doseja then steadied the innings, putting together a 53-run partnership off 66 balls for the second wicket. Doseja departed after scoring 23 off 30 balls, hitting five fours, before being dismissed by Kavuri Saiteja. Ayush Badoni also fell cheaply, scoring two off six balls before Tanay Thyagarajan claimed his wicket. Abdul Samad then departed for 16 off 19 balls as North Zone lost four wickets for 95 runs.

At Lunch on Day 1, North Zone were 106/4 after 33 overs, with Iqbal (41 off 101) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (5 off 23) at the crease.
