Alex de Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas are set to lock horns in what should be a thrilling first-round men’s singles contest at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open.

De Minaur, the World No. 6, enters the ATP 500 event in Washington on the back of a fourth-round finish at the Wimbledon Championships, where the Aussie suffered a straight-set loss to Roland Garros runner-up Flavio Cobolli. As the defending champion in Washington as well as the top seed this year, de Minaur is widely expected to make another deep run at the hardcourt tournament.

However, a rejuvenated Tsitsipas may very well dash the Aussie’s hopes. The Greek, a former World No. 3 and a two-time major finalist, recently won his 13th career singles title at Gstaad and improved his ranking to No. 51. Overall, de Minaur and Tsitsipas enter Washington with 27-14 and 22-15 win-loss records for the season respectively.

Despite de Minaur’s much superior current ranking, it’s Tsitsipas who has historically dominated the pair’s head-to-head. The Greek leads 12-1, with the Aussie’s sole victory in the rivalry having come in Acapulco two years ago. It’s worth noting that five of Tsitsipas’ 12 wins over de Minaur have come on outdoor hard courts.

Alex de Minaur vs Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction

Given their recent form, it’s a tricky affair to predict the winner of the upcoming first-round match between de Minaur and Tsitsipas in Washington. While the Greek will be confident about doing well against the Aussie considering the one-sided head-to-head, the latter’s exemplary counterpunching and lightning-quick court coverage should definitely trouble the former No. 3.

If Tsitsipas’ serve and forehand are on point on the day, de Minaur could find it difficult to break the Greek. However, the Aussie will look to exploit the Greek’s erratic one-handed backhand as frequently as possible. In all likelihood, the match will go the distance, with de Minaur coming out on top in the end.

Pick: De Minaur to win in three sets.

Alex de Minaur vs Stefanos Tsitsipas betting tips

Tip 1: Betting on ‘Over 22.5 total match games’ could provide strong value. Washington’s notoriously brutal, humid conditions will slow down play, likely resulting in extended, grinding sets.

Tip 2: Look out for live betting opportunities, particularly if Tsitsipas takes an early lead in the contest.
