Chelsea’s on-loan Alejandro Garnacho is facing an uncertain future following a slow start to the 2026-27 campaign with Aston Villa.
Garnacho has struggled for game time at Aston Villa, having yet to start a single match this season. He has played only 31 minutes for Villa, split across three substitute appearances.
Thanks for the submission!
A 15-minute appearance against Hull City is the most Garnacho has spent on the pitch so far, indicating that the 22-year-old is lower in the pecking order in Unai Emery’s squad.
He was an unused substitute in Aston Villa’s last two games and might leave the West Midlands sooner than expected.
According to the Daily Mail, LaLiga clubs are monitoring Garnacho’s situation, and he could be on the move again in the January transfer window.
The Chelsea outcast is no stranger to Spain, as he spent time in the Atletico Madrid academy before joining Manchester United in 2020.
Emery said in a post-match conference last week that Garnacho “is a little bit behind” and would have to improve to force his way into the starting XI.
“[He has to] continue working. Work, work, train, work,” Emery stated. “When he can have minutes to play, try and play well. He is progressing, but we have players in front of him now. Garnacho is a little bit behind, because of some circumstances we had in pre-season. It is time to be patient for the time he needs.”
Chelsea, for their part, are reportedly not planning to sell the Argentine at this stage despite not showing signs of improvement. So, another loan move could be on the cards for Garnacho.
From a promising star at Man United to an outcast at Chelsea: Garnacho’s career at a glance
Garnacho came through the ranks at Manchester United and made his debut for the Red Devils’ senior team at age 17.
The then-teenager was renowned for his explosiveness, combining speed and flair to take on defenders.
During the 2023-24 season, he emerged as a crucial first-team player at Manchester United, scoring several high-profile goals. His most memorable goal of that campaign was a bicycle kick from 15 yards out in a 3-0 win over Everton.
Perhaps an appointment that should not have happened, Ruben Amorim’s reign at United was the beginning of the end of Garnacho’s career at Old Trafford.
The young winger endured limited game time under the Portuguese boss, which led to the pair falling out.
Months after he complained about his limited role in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, Garnacho was sold to Chelsea.
It was not an auspicious start to life at Chelsea for Garnacho, who needed seven games to score his first goal for the Blues.
He would go on to end his debut campaign at the West London club with eight goals and four assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
