For Max Homa, the 2025 season has been one of changes, and now he has added a swing coach change to the list. The star golfer has reunited with his former instructor, Mark Blackburn, ahead of the new season. The veteran coach replaces John Scott Rattan, who parted ways with Homa after the Baycurrent Classic.
Homa is a six-time PGA Tour winner but has struggled with his performance over the past two years. The struggles continued this season as well, and he had no standout results to his name in 2025.
On Friday, November 7, Homa announced on Instagram that he was reuniting with Blackburn.
“Excited to say Mark Blackburn was kind enough to rejoin the team so we got some work in yesterday!” he wrote. “We had a lot of success and I’m looking forward to grinding to make that happen again in ‘26. I’m happy he was kind enough to take me back cuz we’ve worked so well together and it was cool how quickly it felt like old times. Here’s some swings for u golf dorks out there (I am a golf dork so it’s cool I say this)
“I do want to thank John Scott Rattan for our time together. He’s one of the kindest and smartest people in the game of golf. I have nothing but good things to say about him,” he added.
Previously, Blackburn worked with Max Homa for four years until they parted ways last year. In those four years, Homa won five titles, two Presidents Cups, became a US Ryder Cup member, and reached the top ten in the OWGR. Rattan joined Homa’s team at the Zozo Championship last year, and his tenure lasted exactly one year, with Japan being his final event.
Earlier this year, Homa also parted ways with his longtime caddie and childhood friend, Joe Greiner. He then hired Bill Harke but the partnership lasted only a couple of months. Further, the six-time PGA Tour champion was even seen carrying his own bag during the US Open qualifying. He is currently working with veteran bagman Lance Bennett, who has previously caddied for Tiger Woods.
Is Max Homa competing at the World Wide Technology Championship?
Max Homa is not in the field for the World Wide Technology Championship 2025, which began on Thursday, November 7, at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos.
Homa was last seen at the Black Desert Championship, where he tied for ninth. Following the tournament, he announced the end of a disappointing 2025 season, which concluded with just two top-10 finishes.
Max Homa made 24 starts on the PGA Tour this year and missed eight cuts. The underwhelming performance resulted in him finishing 111th in the FedEx Cup standings and missing the playoffs. However, three top-20 finishes in the fall season helped him move back inside the top 100.
