Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Suresh Raina penned a heartfelt tribute to MS Dhoni following the latter’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame. The 43-year-old was one of seven cricketing greats honored during a special ceremony held at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios on Monday, June 9.
On Tuesday, June 10, Raina shared a post on Instagram congratulating the former Indian captain on his latest achievement, writing:
“The Legend Enters the Hall! @mahi7781 incredible career & contributions to cricket have earned him a well-deserved spot in the Hall of Fame. From electrifying finishes to game-changing leadership, Dhoni bhai has left an indelible mark on the sport . His calm demeanor, razor-sharp instincts & unwavering commitment have inspired millions . A true icon & legend of the game, his legacy will continue to inspire generations of cricketers.”
Meanwhile, reflecting on the honor, MS Dhoni said [as quoted by the ICC]:
“It is an honor to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”
Six distinguished former players were inducted into the Hall of Fame: Australia’s Matthew Hayden; South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla; New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori; Pakistan’s Sana Mir; and England’s Sarah Taylor.
MS Dhoni scored 17,266 runs for India across formats
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15 2020, but not before achieving remarkable feats for India. He appeared in 90 Test matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09, including 33 fifties and six centuries.
In the 50-over format, Dhoni played 350 matches, amassing 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57 and a strike rate of 87.56, with 73 fifties and 10 centuries. Additionally, he featured in 98 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60 and a strike rate of 126.13, including two fifties.
Dhoni also led India to victory in major tournaments, captaining the team to triumph in the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
