Insider torches league for allowing Ravens to back out from Maxx Crosby trade

The Maxx Crosby trade saga took another turn on Wednesday, and not everyone was happy with how the NFL handled it. The Ravens backed out of an agreed deal to acquire the five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher from the Las Vegas Raiders, citing medical concerns after his physical.

NFL insider Tony Grossi didn’t hold back when he weighed in on Baltimore’s exit from the deal.

“If the Browns would have done something like this, the NFL would have said ‘Nope, the trade is valid,'” Grossi said, via ESPN Cleveland.

The comment pointed to a perceived double standard on how NFL polices trade agreements. It also raised the question of whether the Ravens received leniency that other franchises wouldn’t.

Tony Grossi’s remarks came during a chaotic 48-hour stretch for the Ravens and the Raiders. Las Vegas announced on Tuesday that the trade was dead, stressing that Baltimore backed out of the agreement reached four days earlier.

The sticking point was the Ravens’ long-term comfort level with Maxx Crosby’s knee. The star pass rusher had meniscus surgery in January after being shut down against his wishes in Las Vegas’ final two regular-season games. His surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, said to ESPN that Crosby was ahead of schedule in recovery and on track to return during the offseason program.

Baltimore moved fast once the deal collapsed. The Ravens agreed to a four-year, $112 million deal with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson on Wednesday, according ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Meanwhile, Crosby returned to Las Vegas and plans to continue his rehab at the Raiders’ facility. Schefter added that Several teams already called the the team about his availability. However, at two first-round picks, the asking price remains steep.
